Introducing… Shayna Gibson!

Hello Northview students and families! My name is Shayna Gibson (she/her), and I will be your student teacher for the high school choir program this semester! 

I’m thrilled to share that I have been placed in your choir classroom for my student teaching requirement, running from the beginning of the school year through December 18. I’m so eager to support and learn from these students this semester, and to work alongside Mr. Phillipson in the welcoming environment he’s created.

I’m currently finishing up the last bit of my degree at Michigan State University studying Music Education. Choir was always my favorite part of any day, and I enjoyed it so much that I had to make it my life! 

While at MSU, I found a lot of valuable teaching experience in a student-run a cappella group, Capital Green, where I served as music director for three years and helped lead the group to international competition finals in New York City. This gave me experience in arranging music, leading warmups, and teaching music to those who may not have much experience. I can’t wait to implement my knowledge in this area with the a cappella group here at Northview, From the Top.

  • Depart Northview HS after school on Thursday, September 17th via bus

  • Return Friday afternoon, September 18th to Northview HS by 4:30pm (PLEASE ARRANGE FOR RIDES HOME!)

  • In order to make this trip free for students, we need help! Our Vocal Music Boosters have created a sign-up for some food/drink needs. Please choose a couple things to donate (you can also just choose to donate $$ to cover some of the expenses!): SIGN UP LINKED HERE

BROADWAY GR RAFFLE

  • Our first Vocal Music Boosters fundraiser is upon us! Each year, the Vocal Boosters raffles off a set of two season tickets to Broadway GR at DeVos Hall!

  • Forms (LINKED HERE) have been sent home with students and are due September 21st along with all cash/checks. Please work hard to sell tickets! We need lots of funding this year for all of the exciting events upcoming.

  • BONUS: We have two extra tickets for NEXT WEEK’s production of Hell’s Kitchen (Alicia Keys Musical) at DeVos. Wednesday at 7:30. The boosters are hoping to sell these tickets separate from our raffle. Make an offer of $100 (or more!) to jphillipson@nvps.net to claim them!

  • SEPTEMBER 24th at 6:30pm is our first Vocal Music Boosters meeting. We will meet in the choir room and get the year off to a great start! Cookies/Refreshments will be available! Come and get to know what goals the boosters are setting for our fundraising and student opportunities this year!
